About IIID

The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) was established in 1972 and has since grown to become a premier association dedicated to the professional advancement of interior designers across India. The Institute is committed to unifying the community of designers who actively contribute to shaping the interior design profession within the country. IIID focuses on establishing good professional and trade practices, upholding ethical standards among its members, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge with other professional organisations both nationally and internationally. The Institute also encourages collaborations, education, and cultural exchange among designers, fostering their professional growth and promoting design excellence. Our membership framework is unique, it allows for every stake holder of the construction industry and design fraternity to be a part of an extensive collaborative network. Today we are 10,000 members and 35 Chapter & Centres across India with well-defined goals and objectives towards fulfilment of its duties for the fraternity and society at large. Notably, IIID also plays a significant role in the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association (APSDA), representing India’s interests at an international level.

Our various objectives are highlighted below

Member Services

IIID offers a multi‐category membership structure. The Associate, Fellow, and Trade categories form the core of the Institute, reflecting the diverse nature of the profession. In addition to these core categories, other membership types include Affiliate, Education, Licentiate, Student, Corporate, Press, and Honorary members. This inclusive framework ensures that all stakeholders within the interior design profession are represented and actively engaged in the Institute’s activities.

The Institute is dedicated to encouraging and fostering the ideals that define the interior design profession, ensuring that members are guided by a shared vision and professional standards.

IIID emphasises the importance of fellowship among its members, cultivating a spirit of camaraderie within the fraternity. Upholding ethical conduct is a central focus, with the Institute actively promoting integrity in all professional interactions.

The advancement of common interests is a priority, with the Institute striving to provide support and advocacy for its members on issues that impact their professional lives.

The Institute acts in the best interests of its members, ensuring that their needs and concerns are addressed for the collective benefit of the community.

Communication

IIID publishes “INSCAPE”, a bi-monthly magazine that provides detailed coverage of regional and national activities. The magazine includes sections dedicated to the continuing education of members, offering updates on design solutions, technology, and exemplary design practices from across the country. The Institute also maintains its unique web portal at www.iiid.in, serving as a hub for information and communication.

Education and Research Initiatives

IIID is strongly committed to promoting research and scientific work related to interior design. The Institute has developed a comprehensive and periodically updated syllabus designed to facilitate high-quality education in interior design, which educational institutions can adopt. Additionally, IIID organises continuing education workshops, seminars, and programmes to benefit its members and keep them abreast of the latest developments in the field.

Awards

To recognise and promote outstanding achievements in interior design, IIID conducts the annual IIID Design Excellence Awards at both regional and national levels. The Institute has also partnered with major corporations to encourage creativity within specific domains of design.

Trade Exhibitions

Various IIID chapters and centres regularly organise “SHOWCASE” exhibitions, featuring materials and services relevant to building and interiors. These exhibitions are often accompanied by theme-based seminars and presentations, providing a comprehensive platform to fulfil the Institute’s objectives.

Conventions

The Institute’s bi-annual National Convention, known as “NATCON”, brings together members from across the country to discuss significant issues affecting the interior design profession. Each convention sets new benchmarks in creativity and solidarity within the fraternity.

With a legacy spanning over 50 years, IIID celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 22/12/2022 at a ceremony attended by distinguished figures in the design industry. During this event, representatives from the 35 Chapters and Centres reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the mission and vision of the interior design profession. The National Committee is recognised as the Golden Team 2022-25 and is comprised of 15 members from diverse parts of the country brought together under the able leadership of President Sarosh Wadia.
